The Problem

Revenue Looks Fine. The Money That Stays Behind Doesn't.

In the May 2026 NFIB Small Business Economic Trends survey, 18% of owners named inflation as their single most important problem — the highest reading since December 2024 — and labour cost reached 14%, the highest level in the survey's history.

Suppliers raised prices twice and you absorbed both

Wages went up, and so did payroll costs on top of them

You genuinely don't know your current gross margin

Software subscriptions crept up $9 at a time, twelve times over

You've been meaning to raise prices for eighteen months

You have no idea how many customers you could afford to lose

Every draft of the announcement email starts with an apology

You're busier than ever and somehow taking home less

“My costs keep going up, but I'm afraid that raising my prices will make customers leave.”

Market statistics on this page are reproduced from the NFIB Small Business Economic Trends survey, May 2026, as published. Every other figure shown — margins, prices, scenarios and worked examples — is illustrative, built to demonstrate the method. Your numbers will differ.

What It's Actually Costing You

Margin Drift Doesn't Announce Itself

It arrives as a dozen small increases that are never added up together — and it converts a profitable business into a merely busy one without ever showing up in your sales figures.

6.5

Margin points, gone

Five ordinary cost increases — materials +8%, labour +6%, rent +5%, shipping +10%, software +12% — cost an illustrative business 6.5 points of gross margin. Not one of them felt like a crisis on its own.

$31k

Profit, quietly gone

On $480,000 of revenue, that 6.5-point slide is roughly $31,200 a year. It is the difference between a modestly profitable business and a break-even one — with identical revenue on both sides.

18

Months of hesitation

The most expensive month is always the next one you postpone. And the longer you wait, the larger the correction has to be — which is exactly what makes customers react.

All three figures above are illustrative worked examples built for this kit, not measured outcomes or a forecast for your business.

The Solution

Meet the Margin Shield Pricing Kit

A pricing protection system, not a pricing ebook. You open the files, enter your numbers, get a specific price and a specific risk figure, send the increase using a template, and then monitor it so the problem never returns unnoticed.

  • Find out whether you are actually losing margin — in about 20 minutes
  • Calculate the exact price your business needs, not a guess
  • Know precisely how many customers you can afford to lose before it hurts
  • Decide which customers get an increase first, and which need a phone call
  • Send an announcement that is warm, clear and completely un-apologetic
  • Handle every objection with a script that holds the price
  • Never be caught out by your own costs again — nine hours a year

Who it's not for

  • Anyone looking for a guarantee that no customer will ever leave after a price increase — this kit teaches you to quantify and manage that risk, not to pretend it doesn't exist.
  • Businesses wanting done-for-you pricing consultancy. This is a self-serve toolkit; you enter your own numbers.
  • Large enterprises with a pricing team and revenue-management software already in place.
  • Anyone hoping to avoid opening a spreadsheet. The whole method rests on three sheets you fill in yourself.
  • Anyone seeking legal, accounting or tax advice. This is educational material — see the disclaimer below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Might Reasonably Want to Know

Will I lose customers if I raise my prices?
Possibly — and we won't pretend otherwise. What this kit does is tell you, before you decide, exactly how many customers you could afford to lose and still be no worse off. In the ten worked examples in Chapter 13 that figure ranges from 10.8% to 25.9%, which is almost always far more than the owner expected. You make the decision against that number, not against a fear.
Do I need to be good with numbers or spreadsheets?
No. Every formula is written out in plain English and worked through with real figures, and there is a one-page reference card. In the spreadsheets you type into the shaded cells only — everything else calculates itself, and each sheet has a Read Me tab.
Does it work for a service business, or only for products?
Both, deliberately. The calculator works on any unit — an item, a job, an hour, a visit, a box, an order. Chapter 13 runs the same method through a consultant, an agency, a cleaning company, a salon, a restaurant, a bakery, a contractor, a photographer, an e-commerce store and a freelancer.
How much should I actually raise my prices by?
That depends on your costs, your margin, your capacity and your market, which is why Chapter 5 gives you eight pricing methods rather than one number. In the ten worked examples, the increase that restored margin landed between 7.8% and 10.7% in every case — but you'll calculate yours, not borrow theirs.
What software do I need to open the files?
The spreadsheets are standard .xlsx files and open in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers or LibreOffice. The guides are PDFs, and the templates are a .docx that opens in Word, Google Docs or Pages. No subscription, no app, no account.
Do I need accounting software or a bookkeeper to use it?
No. Everything the kit needs can be taken from bank statements, supplier invoices and your sales figures. If you do have accounting software it will be faster, but it isn't required.
How long does it take to work through?
The first diagnosis takes about 20 minutes. The full 30-day plan is roughly seven hours of work, broken into one short task a day. After that the maintenance system runs at about nine hours a year.
Is this legal, accounting, tax or financial advice?
No. It is educational material. Its calculations depend entirely on the figures you enter, and it cannot verify them. Contract terms, price-variation clauses, tax treatment, surcharging rules and consumer-protection requirements vary by jurisdiction and sector — consult qualified professionals for those, and confirm what applies to your business before implementing changes.
Is this a subscription?
No. One payment of $42, and the files are yours to keep and reuse for as long as you like. There is nothing to cancel.
How do I get my files after paying?
Immediately. You get a download link on the confirmation page and by email as soon as checkout completes — no waiting and nothing shipped.
